Ideal Dog Weight

Maintaining your dog's ideal body weight is proven to extend lifespan and improve quality of life.

What's A Healthy Weight?

We all want our loved dogs to live longer and happier. Maintaining the dog's ideal body weight is proven both scientifically and statistically to extend the life span of a dog.

Eating a fresh raw diet promotes many health benefits, including easier weight control and management. Obesity overburdens growing bones and tissues — a healthy weight means a longer, happier life.

How to Check Your Dog's Weight

Run your hands along your dog's ribcage — this simple check tells you everything you need to know.

Ideal Weight

You can feel the ribs but not see them. The waist is visible from above and the belly tucks up from the side.

⚠️

Underweight

Ribs or spine are visible and easily felt. Increase the daily food portion gradually over 1-2 weeks.

Overweight

Ribs cannot be felt under a thick fat layer. No visible waist. Reduce portions and increase exercise.

Raw Feeding Guidelines by Age

Every dog is different. Use these guidelines as a starting point and adjust based on your dog's condition and activity level.

2% — 3% daily

Adult Dogs

Feed approximately 2-3% of your dog's ideal body weight daily, split between two meals. Small dogs may need 3-5% of their ideal weight daily, split over two meals.

Up to 10% daily

Pups Up to 4 Months

A puppy's first few months are all about rapid growth. You may give up to 10% of the current body weight, divided over 4 to 5 meals per day.

6% daily

Pups 4 to 8 Months

Puppies grow quickly between 4 and 8 months but can become overweight if overfed. Feed 6% of ideal body weight divided over 3 meals per day.

4% daily

Young Dogs 8 to 12 Months

From 8 months, twice daily feeding generally suffices. Feed 4% of ideal weight divided over 2 to 3 meals. Gradually reduce portions to adult level within 4 months.
