Cat Feeding Tips

Fussy Cats

Cats are notoriously picky eaters. Here are our proven tips to help even the fussiest cats transition to a natural raw diet in Dubai and the UAE.

Why Are Cats So Fussy?

Cats are imprint eaters - they learn what food is acceptable based on what they ate as kittens. A cat raised on dry kibble may initially refuse raw food not because they dislike it, but because it does not match their imprinted idea of what food should look, smell and feel like.

Unlike dogs who will often eat anything, cats can be extremely resistant to dietary changes. The key is patience, gradual transition and a few appetite-boosting tricks that tap into their natural instincts.

Tips to Get Your Fussy Cat to Eat Raw

Try one or more of these proven techniques to help your cat make the switch to natural raw food.

šŸŒ”ļø

Warm the Food

Cats prefer food at prey-body temperature around 38 degrees. Warm raw food slightly by placing the pack in warm water for a few minutes before serving. Never microwave.

šŸ–

Add Bone Broth

Raw Cut bone broth adds an irresistible aroma and flavour that most cats cannot resist. Pour a small amount over the raw food to entice reluctant eaters.

🐟

Add Fish Oil or Sardine

A few drops of fish oil or a small piece of sardine in spring water mixed into the raw food adds a strong smell that appeals to cats.

šŸ”„

Gradual Transition

Mix a small amount of raw food with your cat's current food, increasing the ratio over 2-4 weeks. Start with 10% raw and work up to 100% over the transition period.

Meal Feeding

Offer raw food at set meal times rather than free feeding. A hungry cat is much more willing to try new food. Remove uneaten food after 30 minutes.

🚫

Stop the Snacks

Reduce treats and snacks between meals. A cat with a full stomach from treats has no motivation to try new food. Hunger is the most effective appetite stimulant.
