Your Step-by-Step Guide

Switching to Raw

Natural raw food is suitable for all breeds, ages and sizes. Here is everything you need to make the switch successfully.

Is Raw Food Right for My Dog?

Natural raw food is suitable for all breeds of dogs, of all ages and sizes. To determine how much food your dog should have, you need to consider his age, weight and how much energy he expends. Dogs that get a lot of exercise or that are nervous use more energy and therefore need a slightly bigger portion.

Almost all dogs who subsist on dry food have imbalanced gut flora. The older the dog and the greater amount of dry food he has consumed, the greater the imbalance. To allow these dogs to get used to natural raw food, it is best to introduce it gradually.

As for puppies, natural raw food is just as important as it is for adult dogs, but you must get the puppy accustomed to it. If the nursing bitch is already on Raw Cut food, then the process is much easier. In that case it is advisable to start with small amounts of fresh meat, so that there is a gradual switch from the bitch milk.

If your dog is already on dry food and you want to switch him to Raw Cut Complete, then we recommend that you first start with a fasting day then gradually build up the amount of Raw Cut Complete as shown on the table below.

Did you know?

The gut flora is like a factory that works day and night to digest food and monitor the balance between good and bad bacteria. Excess bad bacteria are killed off so that infections don't have a chance to flourish.

Tips for a Smooth Transition

Follow these guidelines to make switching to raw food as easy as possible for your dog or cat.

1

Start Slow

Introduce raw food gradually over 10 days. A sudden switch can upset your dog's digestive system.

2

Fasting Day First

Start with a fasting day to clean out your dog's digestive system before introducing raw food.

3

One Protein at a Time

Begin with a single protein source like beef or chicken. This helps identify any sensitivities early.

4

Thaw Properly

Always thaw raw food in the fridge overnight. Never microwave or use hot water to defrost.

5

Watch for Changes

Monitor your dog's stools and energy. Loose stools in the first few days are normal — it's detox.
